A third-party score estimating the strength of a domain’s backlink profile.
Domain Rating (Ahrefs) and Domain Authority (Moz) are proprietary, logarithmic scores from 0 to 100 that estimate how strong a site’s backlink profile is relative to others. They are useful for quick comparison and for filtering link prospects, but they are third-party metrics, not signals Google uses.
Because the scale is logarithmic, moving from 20 to 30 is far easier than from 70 to 80. Treat these numbers as directional, not absolute truth about how you will rank.
These scores are handy shorthand when vetting link opportunities or benchmarking competitors. A prospect with a strong, relevant profile is generally worth pursuing over one with a weak or spammy one.
Treating DR/DA as a ranking factor Google reads, or chasing a high score with irrelevant links. A high domain rating built on low-relevance links will not move rankings for your topic, and inflated scores can be gamed.
Common questions
Straight answers on how this fits your marketing and build.
No. DA and DR are third-party estimates from Moz and Ahrefs. Google has repeatedly said it has no single site-wide authority score of that kind, so use these metrics for comparison, not as a target.
