Conversion work that can survive being checked

Experiments called at 95%, losers logged beside the winners, and an honest answer on whether your volume supports testing at all. The variants are built by the people who form the hypothesis.

How a CRO engagement is run

How we work

Why teams bring us in for CRO

Anyone can redesign a page and show you a chart that went up afterwards. What makes this a discipline rather than a taste argument is the bar for calling something true — and what happens to the two tests in three that do not clear it.

What counts as a result
Statistical significance at 95%, reached at a sample size agreed before the test starts. We do not stop a test early because it is winning, which is the single most common way agencies manufacture a lift.
What happens when a test loses
It goes in the same log as the winners, with the hypothesis that turned out to be wrong. Most tests do not win. An agency showing you only winners is showing you a subset and calling it a record.
Who approves the hypothesis
You do, before the variant is built. No test goes live on a guess we did not show you first, and the reasoning is written down rather than asserted on a call.
When we will tell you not to test
When your traffic cannot support it. The planner above is the same arithmetic we run internally — if it says a quarter, we will say so in the audit rather than sell you a retainer that cannot produce an answer.
What you are not locked into
We work in whichever testing platform you already have. There is no proprietary tool you lose access to when this ends — the variant code, the results and the instrumentation live in your stack. Who builds the variants
What it costs
Published, not quoted on request. A funnel audit with a 90-day experiment roadmap from $1,000; ongoing testing from $2,500 a month. Full pricing
Before anyone sells you a test

An A/B test is an instrument and yours may not have enough light

Below a certain amount of traffic, a test cannot return an answer — not a weak answer, no answer. Most agencies will sell you one anyway and call a winner at week three. Put your own numbers in and see what the arithmetic actually says.

Testing works, but slowly. At this pace every experiment has to earn its slot, so the roadmap matters more than the tooling. We would start with an audit to make sure the first few are the right ones. Start with a CRO audit

Two-proportion sample size at 95% two-sided significance and 80% power, one variant against control, with a two-week minimum because weekday and weekend traffic convert differently. It tells you how long a test needs to answer — never whether your variant will win. Nobody can tell you that in advance, and a page that offers to is selling you something.

What you can test

Your stack decides what is testable before your budget does

Half of a conversion roadmap is ruled out by the platform before anyone writes a hypothesis. These are the stacks we work in, and what each one will and will not let you change.

Hosted platforms

Fast to test on the pages you own, and hard-walled on the ones you do not.

  • ShopifyPlatform

Product and collection pages test freely. Checkout does not — outside Plus you are optimising everything up to the cart and nothing after it, which is where a lot of the leak actually is.

  • WordPressPlatform

The most testable of the hosted stacks and the most fragile. Plugin-rendered markup shifts under a client-side test, which is how variants end up flickering or silently not rendering at all.

  • WebflowPlatform

Clean markup, so client-side tests apply cleanly. No server layer, so anything needing a decision before paint — personalisation, segment routing — is off the table.

  • HubSpot CMSPlatform

Forms are the conversion and HubSpot owns them, so most of the meaningful tests are inside the form module rather than around it.

Code you control

Everything is testable, including the parts most platforms hide — which raises the ceiling and the cost of getting it wrong.

  • Next.jsStack

Server-rendered variants with no flicker and no layout shift, which also means the test is not quietly costing you the CLS you optimised for.

  • Custom buildStack

Feature-flagged at the server, so a variant can change pricing logic, routing or the order of a multi-step flow — not just what the page looks like.

How it runs

One full cycle, then it repeats from a new baseline

Instrumentation first — you cannot test what you are not measuring correctly. The first validated winner lands in the 30–45 day window on high-traffic pages, which is what the FAQ commits to; below that traffic the planner above tells you the honest number for your own funnel.

What happens at each stage
  1. Week 1Analytics instrumented and trusted
  2. Week 1–2Sessions watched, not summarised
  3. Weeks 2–3Every drop-off priced by revenue
  4. Weeks 3–4Roadmap you sign off on
  5. Week 4First hypothesis, first variant built
  6. Weeks 5–8Test runs to its sample size
  7. Weeks 6–9Called at 95% — win or lose, logged
  8. Day 90 onWinner shipped, cycle restarts higher
01Why underpowered tests are worse than no test at all
The math nobody explains

Why underpowered tests are worse than no test at all

Most reported CRO wins are noise dressed up as insight. When a test lacks the sample size to detect the effect you are hoping for, calling a winner early gives you a coin flip with a confident-sounding percentage attached. We calculate minimum detectable effect and required sample size before a test goes live, then hold the line until it resolves, so the decisions you ship are ones the data actually supports.

  • Sample size and power are agreed before the test starts, not after
  • We guard against peeking, which inflates false positives dramatically
  • Sample-ratio mismatch checks catch broken randomization early
  • Losers are reported openly because they still sharpen your next hypothesis
02How small, validated lifts turn into a step-change in revenue
Compounding, not one-off

How small, validated lifts turn into a step-change in revenue

A single 8% lift is a rounding error. Twelve validated 8% lifts, shipped in sequence and left to stack on the same traffic, are a different business. The value of CRO is not any one experiment but the velocity and discipline of the flywheel: instrument, diagnose, test, ship, re-measure, repeat. Teams that keep the cadence for two to three quarters see revenue per session move in ways a single redesign never delivers.

  • Winners compound on the same traffic you are already paying for
  • A steady test cadence beats occasional big-bang redesigns
  • Every shipped change is re-measured live against its forecast
  • Learnings feed the roadmap so hypotheses get sharper over time

Whether conversion is where your money is or whether it is traffic

CRO multiplies whatever is already arriving. If not much is arriving, a better rate on a small number is still a small number — these settle which end to spend on.

  • SEOPPC

Which channel fills the funnel you are about to optimise, and how fast.

  • In-houseagency

Testing needs a designer, a front-end build and someone who can read a result. The real cost stack of covering all three.

  • Custom developmentwebsite builders

The ceiling your platform puts on what you can ever test.

FAQs

Questions buyers ask before signing

Quick answers to the things buyers always check first.

How is CRO priced?
A one-time CRO audit is $1,000 and delivers a ranked list of conversion leaks and a 90-day experiment roadmap. Ongoing Growth retainers start at $2,500/month and include up to four live A/B or multivariate tests per month, variant build, analysis and weekly reporting. Dominance programs with higher test velocity start at $5,000/month.
How much traffic do I need for CRO testing to work?
A/B testing needs roughly 1,000 conversions per month across the funnel to reach statistical significance at a reasonable pace. Below that, we lean on qualitative methods — session replay, heatmaps and user interviews — to drive change without waiting on statistics. We will tell you honestly in the audit which approach fits your current volume.
How long before I see a lift in conversions?
Most accounts see the first validated winner inside 30–45 days on high-traffic pages, since those reach significance fastest. Compounding lift across the full funnel typically lands in the 90–180 day window. Lower-traffic sites take longer because tests need adequate sample size before we call a winner.
What exactly is included in a CRO retainer each month?
You get a senior conversion strategist, a prioritized experiment backlog, design and front-end build of each variant, statistical analysis, a documented learning log and a shared live dashboard. No test goes live without your sign-off on the hypothesis. Growth tier includes up to four live tests per month.
Do you run A/B tests only, or other types too?
We run A/B tests, multivariate tests, split-URL tests and, at the Dominance tier, server-side tests for personalization and segment-level optimization. Method is chosen by what the data suggests, not by what is easiest to set up. We document losing tests with the same transparency as winners so the learnings compound.
What tools do you use for testing and analytics?
We work with whichever testing platform you already have — VWO, Optimizely, Convert or Google Optimize alternatives — or recommend one suited to your stack and budget. For analytics we use GA4 with server-side events, and for qualitative data we use Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity or FullStory. We never lock you into a tool that creates dependency on us.
How do you identify what to test first?
We instrument GA4 and session recordings in week one to map every drop-off point across the funnel by revenue impact. Each leak becomes a testable hypothesis scored on the PIE framework — potential, importance and ease. You approve the 90-day experiment roadmap before any variant is built, so priorities are agreed rather than assumed.
Do you guarantee a conversion rate improvement?
No credible CRO firm can guarantee a specific lift percentage before seeing your data — traffic quality, offer and pricing all matter too. What we guarantee is the process: statistically rigorous tests called at 95% confidence, transparent reporting on wins and losses, and KPI-tied retainer terms so our fee adjusts if agreed targets are missed.
What happens to the winning variants at the end of a test?
Validated winners are handed off to your development team or, if we built them, shipped directly to production. They are documented in your learning log with the evidence that justified the decision. Wins compound because each test cycle starts from the new baseline rather than repeating ground already covered.
Will CRO work conflict with our SEO or paid media programs?
Done properly, it reinforces both. Better landing page conversion rates lower your effective cost per acquisition on paid media. Better on-page signals — lower bounce, longer dwell — feed back into SEO quality signals. We coordinate with your SEO and paid media teams so tests are scheduled around major traffic changes that could invalidate results.
What do we own at the end of the engagement?
Everything — the variant code, the test results, the learning log and the analytics instrumentation. There is no proprietary testing platform you lose access to when we stop working together. The data and the decisions stay in your GA4 and your codebase.

Who builds the variant

A test is not a document — it is production code on your live site, seen by real customers. These two write it, which is why there is no handoff between the person who forms the hypothesis and the person who builds it.
